“WhY sO SeRioUs?”

People nowadays no longer want to hear the truth, or heartfelt words, or need to see what is real, or the genuine side of things. That’s passe, no longer in fashion, boring, and it doesn’t get you anywhere. People want to hear words pleasant to the ears, what they want to hear, that are light, not too heavy, that need not be serious, for the fun of it, no need to be of substance, can be superficial, not to be taken seriously, of entertainment value, spontaneous, that show your reaction, say-it-here-and-forget-about-it-here type. Because life is heavy and tiring enough as it is. Is the explanation and rationale behind it.
Yes, a lot of times, I find myself taking things a bit too seriously. Taking the people around me too seriously. Taking life a bit too seriously. Taking myself too seriously. To attach too much value to everything said and done. I’m out-of-fashion, I guess. Not keeping up with the times.

I agree too, that we seem to be taking life so seriously that people turn to look at us with queer eyes, and probably laugh behind our backs for who we are. You know, I’ve recently been confronted with an issue, a moral issue, which I found… hard to accept, even though EVERYONE around, in this society seemed to accept it like it’s the norm. Since when did it become the norm? And since when am I no longer the norm?
I don’t know if I’m reading too much into everything I see, even those silly Facebook quizzes, they make me think before doing. But… this world/society seemed so much of a performance, a show etc, everyone no longer wants to show their true selves. Because we only stand to lose. Hence the seemingly fake-ness, seemingly un-seriousness, to hide their insecurities and afraid-of-losing. But why?
Ironically, just look at my reply to your entry, I don’t even know you, and you don’t know me, but I’m replying you with my utmost sincerity, perhaps coloured with some bitterness towards this world. Honestly, why do I take it so seriously?
Perhaps to once again, find security in this insecure world, everyone swept such melancholic thoughts into a beautifully packaged term, called: QUARTER LIFE CRISIS.
For me, I’d still v much prefer to listen to e truth.
It doesn’t feels good not knowing e truth!
Sincerity plays a v impt part around.
But too serious may put alot of ppl off.
Being true yet not so serious wld b an ideal case isn’t it?
I’m sure all of us know that life is hard enough, have a break, have a kit kat, having some jokes wldnt kill too. :)

It’s difficult to change a personality 180 degrees especially if it’s in their genes. I’ll only try to adapt to the situation lor.

I suddenly miss watching Russell Peter’s comedy show. Hilarious like mad la.. Can die of laughter. lol …I think he is a comedy genius, who can produce true accounts of people of all cultures. It’s the Exaggeration. Really ROFL!!
Who knows, privately he is the serious, contemplative type. Based on his interview I saw, his dad passed away and he regretted not being closer to his father.
Nothing wrong with being philosophical and truthful about things, embrace your true self.
Sotongette: Not all Facebook quizzes are silly, It’s a for fun thing. It’s for laughs also. Some of the more serious quizzes, the results I get are true though. Get to know myself to a certain extend. Don’t know about you, but this is coming from a 19 years old. =D

Hey, I’m obviously trying to kill time too, that’s why I did the FB quizzes. Yeah it’s for fun, perhaps hence why a lot of ppl tend to… juz take it with a pinch of salt. Perhaps sometimes there’s a certain online personality which you wish you would have, or just not giving thought into it.
But I do you see. Serious… Even in FB quizzes! Haha.
I have to say some results are pretty true, others are definitely juz for laughs. In fact, I made a quiz myself too~ and I was so totally serious in making it that my friend had to give it to me for my effort. I’m just this kind.
I have a serious attitude towards life, work, relationships, friends etc, I guess. Of course, being serious doesn’t equate to straight-faced. I like to smile a lot too, and I joke. So when I self-proclaim that I’m serious, my friends laughed it off!
Taking things seriously reflects a person’s attiutde towards an issue/person and has due respect towards the issue/person. Its all about individual perception.
My respect to this ‘lot’ of serious people and i believe they have another side of easy going characteristic that may not be shown obviously.
Truth and nothing but the truth. I like that.
Live your life happily, take your job earnestly and treat your loved ones faithfully.
However, don’t forget to chill a little sometimes, dude.

there’s nothing wrong to be serious. but don’t be too serious until u make everyone around u depress. i like serious people cos i am one very serious person. but i know how to be flexible, and react differently to different things.

It’s an undervalued virtue in our current society. Why bother keeping up with the times if it doesn’t better our principles? That being said, I do believe that it’s all about balancing the level and degree of seriousness base on the situation. Aren’t you doing that right now?

always for me is true talk to people. be it they are happy or not. take it or leave it. i am just will be me. but.. everything had change. ever i was asked.. what do i earn myself being that way.. it is nothing.
as i think over it. it is right to treat n show others our very true self n views. however, in social… it is like a shell fish without it shell in the sea full of danger.

there is still a need to be true..true to myself.

you guys have redefined, or shall i say justified the “idol”‘s definition in this murky industry (at least in other countries).
Anyway, last remark, By my side and Dream Catchers were great dramas. and with that, I mean its my top 5 dramas ever, among all dramas that i have previously watched (taiwan, japan, korea, china, hongkong etc). the plots were sophisticated, inspiring and triggered so much reflection within us.
lastly. i feel weird for complimenting him so much. so i need a disclaimer as well with the assistance of an emoticon to fortify my point that….. I am not gay :D
Well, nothing is the best except the truth.
However, if there is a need for white lies to make it pleasant for other people’s ears, we tend to do it sometimes.
Lies are still lies. No matter how pleasant it is, in the end when the truth is out, the person who lied have to hold the responsible. And it might end up hurting others. So does it worth afterall?
We need to balance ourselves between serious and relax. For certain things, we have to be serious.
U are not out of fashion, it is your character.
When i was young till my poly years, i do take things quite serious.
What people think of me, how they look at me etc.
I take negative things and comments seriously and will felt super upset.
However, after i step into the working world, i learnt and slowly i learnt to be more relax.
Be yourself cos you should be feeling comfortable, not others. We don’t live for others. =)

Life is tiring enough but its doesnt mean you must not be serious,must depend on the situation,for example:
Loved ones must be treated faithfully and love must be treated seriously.
Just want to say its ok to relax after a long day of work but must be serious if needed because i don care if its out-of-fashion or not keeping up with the times,I still prefer to hear the truth

We need to learn to relax a bit …not to be too hard on ourselves when the world is already so …
Truth or Lies …Not all truth are liked by many …some prefer white lies…

Last time, I was also like you. But slowly, I found that being too serious just portray yourself as a ‘nerd’ or ‘someone very unfriendly’. I found I missed out on alot of laughters, fun and of course, friends.
Life is too short to be always serious. Sometimes we need to let the little child that is innate in us out. Play like you were a kid. Laugh until you have no voice. And love like there is no tomorrow. That’s what I called quality life. Money plays just a small part, maybe 10% of my life. Rather being immerse in joy and laughter really help shape one’s emotion. Why do you choose to spend a day in sadness when you can spend it in laughter? There’s no trade-offs. Its YOUR choice.
Ah, this is a sentence that is familiar to me too…
And most of the times, I don’t like to hear it bcoz it suggests that I am opinionated or inflexible or petty or not fun to be around…..
But it could be our principles that we have for ourselves or it’s bcoz of our character/personality, right?
Regardless, when this sentence is said, i’ll usually think over it and try to make changes, if possible… ;P

When it comes to work/study/assessment etc etc, its time to be serious because its your and our duty towards them (job/work/study/assessment/homework/assignment/project) to accomplish but rather treat or enjoy it as part of your or our life instead of burden. Try not to be extremely serious to some extend even if you are off from work.. =\ When its time not to be serious, just tone down the seriousness and have some relaxation activities like gathering with friends and other off work events. Both serious or not to be serious work as double edged sword if over the limit and leaves a bad impression to those who are around you.

nooo! I think we should be serious when we have to..and in matters that need us to face them seriously. I think actually, the world is getting less serious nowadays, people tend to treat things that ought to be serious, more jokingly, more in a fun manner.
You are different from other artistes because of your attitude. If you go with the flow, you are no longer unique, at least, not to me.

Sometimes I suppose we have to let lose of ourselves once in a while to feel the outer layer of being just us which isn’t an easy task sometimes. It totally depends on happenings around in our life. Hearing the truth is the majority choice however the best of the truth comes from yourself. Making your own choice to want to tell the truth or not. Whether others want to listen or not, it isn’t an issue at all because the choice is yours. Maybe out-of-fashion and not keeping up with times is just so you, well just stay on with it. Original are always the best.

Frankly speaking, life is in such a way that you have to know how to balance it seriously and also in such a way whereby you won’t appear to be that kind of “so what person who like takes everything seriously”. Life is meant to be one which you lead with happiness, with joy, knowing that this life is yours, you are who to determine how you lead your life. So, ignore criticisms which certainly, as you know, have no basis at all and are just simply there to demoralised you. Be who you are, take life seriously when you should, learn from your mistakes, don’t repeat them and lead your life to the fullest! Been out-of-fashion may seem like a big deal but like what Ven said, originality is always the best. Therefore, the message is just to lead life the way you want it and make sure you do do so to the fullest! Only then can happiness be truly experienced and whatever criticisms that come by your way will, I believe, be just taken with a pinch of salt as they have no basis at all.
