Your entry title gave me a shock. haha~!
Maybe cos “Stare what stare” sound very “beng”.
It is a phrase where alot of youngsters loves to use.
When 2 people stare at each other, when will the staring game ends?
So the best is one of them give a smile and naturally the other person will return a smile too =)
I read a quote quite long ago and it become one of my fave quotes. =)
“A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.” A happy facial expression is one that people respond too; it reminds us of the saying, “smile and the whole world smiles with you”. And, smiles are understood in all languages.
Woah! Somehow this blog entry of yours somehow mightht hinting that you are getting 2nd male lead role in this year end’s blockbuster? O_o 2nd Male Lead’s character is the younger version of Liu Yidao.
Staring contest =) ..Back then in primary school. Everyone seems to be taunting one another to laugh. The mischief in the eyes and the eye rolling.. hahaha..~_o””
I think this quote can be referred to life as well. How tough life may be, appreciating and loving the beautiful side of life would be the best way to lessen the sorrow.
Your title prompted me to think of an experiment commonly used to characterize anxiety and fear behaviour in animals, by maintaining eye contact. I cannot find any online good materials to share with you, but yes, by staring straight-faced at the animal (usually monkeys), you can induce extreme fear and anxiety in the animal. The first 1 minute will make the monkey very agitated, then by the next 2-3 minutes the monkey will turn aggressive. Quite interesting. I’ve never thought of whether smiling at the monkey would reverse the entire situation! Worth some thought~
This perhaps shows the “value” of “eye contact” in terms of communication. In human communication, a lack of eye contact may equate to a lack of sincerity. However, staring may be seen as a challenge hence the “stare what stare” attitude. Same for the monkeys. =) I guess to break the stare, you could always try to smile, but if the smile doesn’t reach the eyes, would it make a difference?
Btw, I’ve lost touch with Chinese chess le, can try Weiqi also, it’s very philosophical too~ If there’s going to be a chess outing, can I join too? =)
hi, i think all ur posts are rather inspiring. it’s mostly about life, people…kind of philosophical. gdgd cos I like to read these kind of things =D I think people who are able to write these kind of entries are mature in their thoughts and are able to view things in different perspectives. These kind of entries can make people learn about certain things in life and reflect on what they’ve done or should do. haha…best wishes & jiayou! =DDDDD
Your recent blogs seems to be suggesting that you are going through some rough patch, some reflection, some new resolutions..Sometimes, you might feel your ideals in conflict with others…and wonder does that fault lies with u? Is it that these values no longer matter to others? Am i the one that is different? But at the end of the day, you need to accountable to your heart…and not roped into the cycle of changing ourselves to please others gradually losing ourselves and what we really want in our lives.
As long as what u believe is correct, go on believing in it. Do not doubt yourself. Be proud of who you really are. The darker the night, the nearer. Do not be discouraged. You can do it! You can breakthrough and achieve victory! Jia you wor!
Haha….i don’t think so wor….
Although i love this quote that “a smile is a curve that sets things straight”, I think in this situation, if the other party is already in rage, the smile could be seen as a smirk & could spike the challenge into a fight.
To break the stare, I guess it would work better to bat your eyelashes several times before you smile. Heehee !
haha really lit student alr :)
and i quite agree with your thoughts sometimes..
and although i know that one has to be flexible, i still think that i’m quite a “traditional” girl. heh.
cause i believe that traditions are there for a purpose.
anyway, crash and burn is a nice song~
Personally feeling, Elvin, I think your blog is a one that is so I shall say, enlightening. I believe what you mentioned in your blog are truths and I feel more enlightened after reading them. The posts have definitely make me look at life in a new perspective and lead my life filled with joy. Like that of anger which you mentioned. Frankly speaking, life is a one devoid of happiness if one choose to lead it with anger and hatred. If everyone were to “an eye for an eye”, this world would be one full of blind people, completely filled with anger and devoid of kindness and understanding. Anger should be controlled in the right way and one should always avoid hurting others at all costs. Reflect upon oneself, do not hurt others, do not pay a man back in his own coin is what that is the most important. Perhaps we should all bear that in mind and break that stare now…
Elvin ng!!!

yah lor, stare what? I like this beng-ish in you…the HUO XIA QU days …when you acted and that’s how you created the impression in many people….haha
Think MCorp should give you another triad leader role (aka GODFATHER) …and you can lead the gang of bengs …haha
haha…the title sound a bit beng but the content is very “Elvin” (let us reflect and think deeply about it). What an interesting contrast…
Smile is contagious so when you stare and smile at someone, its probably someone will smile at you back
Smile is always better than frown and will look younger =)
