It’s alright. I’ve learnt to enjoy criticism even (say “wow!”). I’m here for entertainment only. Thanks for the entertainment. Too. =)

Well, we can’t pleased everyone and we do not have to in fact.
Cos, we are who we are.
We worked hard for ourselves.
There are different types of judgements.
Depending on how ones look at it.
Criticism is good cos we know where to improve.
But if the same criticism is made a few times by the same person,
it is no longer a criticism. It is a personal attack.
Magazines are for entertainment.
So what they published are just for entertaining, instead of taking it as truth =)
Continue to strive towards your own direction. =)
Important thing is that true effort and hardwork has been put into everything we do and that is good enough. Ppl will still judge no matter what.

Wow, the criticism was quite harsh. (BTW, I don’t read such magazines anymore).
Sorry to say there is some truth in the criticism. But how would you know if you hadn’t tried, right? Truth is that you are a nice guy in person. You are too nice to be able to play a baddie role…for now.
That’s why you are right not to be disheartened by such criticism coz criticism is part of the package of being an actor. And nowadays, according to today’s newspaper report, film critics are no longer in the same wavelength of the audience anymore. Films that critics dislike can still be top-earners at the box office. (BTW, I’m 1 of those that don’t follow the critics rating).
Take it and leave it. Be open-minded.
That’s some criticism but just do your best! There’s certainly room for improvement so just take this as motivation and prove them wrong!

elvin, something must have motivated into this spurt of motivation and inspiration of making so many blog posts at one go. as long as u do not receive criticism that will throw doubt about your credibility, u r fine. if your credibility is questioned, then u’ll probably not survive in the entertainment industry. look at joshua, guo liang and yifeng, they are upfront and sincere and they draw viewers to them. so, please do not make the same mistake of some, who tell lies, especially blatant ones, cos such criticism will be bad for your career and much less to enjoy them!! best wishes for your role in together.

besides.. an actor can never run away from this kinda harsh nonsense.. as it is to bring spice to stories and more gossips =)

That is bcos most people are shallow and only look at your physical appearance, without taking the effort to understand you. If they read your blog, I dun think they will think it this way.

Not everyone is perfect, including how a person speak. As long as you have try your best, I feel that it is good enough.

If we mind about every comment we’re just gonna be very busy. However, comment that came constantly mean truth. To the less, it how others see even it doesnt feel. Common comment says something that you might not see and yet value for a change.
Taking bad comment doesnt mean it bad when you see what to change. And good comfort doesnt mean well when it blined by too much love.
Your here for Entertainment only. well.. ya. Is a job of talent.But do you find that they’ve enjoy it? Do you think what your working as.. a comment that way constantly does actually entertain you? or affacts you or time for a change that wont kill you?
We’re just not always right or alright even we’re close to perfact.
I believe what matters is the effort and hardwork that you’ve put into every role you’re given. Being brave enough to try out something you’re new to is worth more than just criticisms.

Well, what can i say, if magazine do not have “Juicy” news, then there won’t be any so called ” entertainment” already for regular readers. Saying this, doesn’t means I agree with what it has been wrote as this only shows how limited can a gossip magazine present and compare an artiste in a small corner of a page which is meaningless, waste of time and pointless to publish, so don’t take it to heart. You have better things to care for. And I only believe in who you are and what you are made of. Be positive, Elvin.

No one is perfect in this world,so if no one is perfect in this world,no actor or actress is also perfect on TV/showbiz.Besides,do not take much notice of those criticism,but sometimes criticism is good because you will know where you go wrong and you will improve on it.I guess trying your best in everything you do,and knowing that you have done your best is more important.Anyway you are such a Mr Nice Guy,baddie roles do not suit you,but do not take it to heart I am just commenting.Just believe in yourself,Elvin.

Am not a fan of Elvin. While I am indeed “amused” by his acting in The Ultimatum and think that he may be a blur person in his own right, I do not feel that he is more known for his brawn than brain. I quite like the things he writes and that’s why while personally, I do not fancy him (and yes, he may quit the entertainment biz, for all I care), I do check out his blog every now and then. And I must say the way he delivers his lines in Chinese is actually quite good (though probably I won’t say the same for his, erm, acting). Also, I do believe he is a nice, well-mannered person in real life.

The magazines are always very extreme becoz they need juicy spicy things to attract buyers and keep readers glued. I’ve seen much worse criticism on other actors/ actresses so you are not the only victim.

Criticisms or Critique, not necessarily true as it can be subjective, are feedback for us to improve on.
As long as we stay true to ourselves and our direction, we will steer forth to pursue our dreams.

As long as you have faith in whatever you’re doing, you’ll be fine. =) I think you’re progressing, in terms of handling the media and your acting skills (bit by bit) although there’s still a lot of room for improvement. (no offense to you right? it’s true because I’m currently studying technical theatre so I witness the harsh training and criticism of the actors during rehearsals.)
Busy with school assignments and also involved in 2 school productions.. All the late nights.
That’s life of the entertainment business.
Can’t wait to go for piano masterclass. 7 more months to graduation! =D

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a lot from you from The Ultimatum. But you totally impressed me with the great improvement! I thought you should do more bad roles, because you really…… impacted me (as in at least my mommy and i hahahah).

Take heart, cos Ivy Lee got it worse in the 1st few years. But she has proven the critics wrong – she had won twice (or thrice?) the Best Actress award.

I suppose we can’t just pushover the whole critism and say it’s not true at all, because i do think it’s true to a certain extent? but of course, the tone of that line wasn’t being very objective then again, it’s 8days, they gotta do such things to make pple read. i enjoy 8days for their sarcasm sometimes!
i guess it’s always to take such critisms with a pinch (a bigger pinch maybe) of salt, think about it and how to improve, and then just move on.
anyway, i read that small/big fish/pond entry, very interesting! so i guess that brawn and brain thing wasn’t too accurate..
well, i think it’s a great deal of choices. (: since you chose to be an actor, you have to face whatever comes with it. it’s… a package. (:
