Can One Person Change the World?

September 8, 2009

I posed the question: “Can one person change the world?”

The answer was: “For evil, yes it’s easier; for good, no it’s hard.”

The rationale was: “If you throw a pebble into water, ten thousand others throw it with you; if you pick up a pebble, you have to pick up ten thousand others yourself.”

Yes, I tend to agree. I’m not pessimistic anymore. I’m a realist. I try to be optimistic.

I certainly hope this is not the case.

    Yup, agreed with the rationale.
But not all evils will get to change the world.
I believes that the good ones will also overcome the evils at times…

The evil always loses out something even more important in the end, and there will certainly be the few of those who will pick up the ten thousands of pebbles with you.

    Be optimistic! :D

haha.. I find it even hard to change someone so close to me for years. Not to say the world.

I guess natual make the good to be earned and the bad to be taken.

Being evil is being kind to oneself in the human world.

However, kindness stays deep in every human.

No one is born evil. =)

A day to live optimistic or pessimistic lies in your heart as you know how hard it is, not to smile and be nice to yourself without caring who walks the path with you because a positive person can affect many other thousands of people and I wish you could be that first of the thousands so that others will follow along with you.

    Stay happy always =D

I like your way of looking at things,Elvin.I also try to be optimistic too.I agree with meiling that not all evils will change the world, look at things on a different point of view and you will find that there are more good ones than evil ones.

One person can definitely change the world because if you are feeling happy, people around you will tend to feel the same because smile can be contagious
It is your choice to either be Pessimistic or Optimistic because it lies in you but sometimes its hard
Sure they are more evil than good in this world but hopefully the good ones will overcome the bad ones
    A quote to share:
Optimists enrich the present, enhance the future,
challenge the improbable and attain the impossible

I don’t think so. Unless there’s blackmagic or witchcrafts existing.

I’ll prefer to think this way, majority changes the world instead. Be it for good or for the worst.

Perhaps I’m too naive who still choose to believe that theres still more good ones then the bad ones out there. hmm…

One person alone cannot change the world but…
one can certainly make an influence… to make a difference by what he does.
Glad that you are learning to be a realist and optimistic. That’s life cos, at the end of the day, we have a say in how we see things.

To be good, it’s all in one’s sense of discipline and mindset. It’s easy to go in the crooked path, to find the easy way out, and commit crime.

An inspiration figure(etc Mother Theresa) would make a large impact on the society and future generations to come, while the terrorists would just be another prick in the history books.

Though the good has to gather a lot of time, energy, resources to make such an impact, -not for themselves, but for the benefit of others. That makes them truly good people.

Yup it’s good that you can always be optimistic in leading your life and handling situations…
One person, although it’s just a small power, however it can make a big difference – by believing in ourselves, have confidence…
One person can always be a bad guy, but inside of him or her, there’s still a little bit of compassion and kindness. That’s what I feel.

As to what dimension are you looking at in your question. Yes, one man can change the world for the better of everyone if he has the perseverance to achieve his goal . A bad man cannot win all the times because you can’t have ten thousand people following one bad guys all his life. Generally human beings are made with the ability to differentiate what is good and what is bad, what is right and what is wrong. There is a moral system in our mind and heart.

Contaminate the mind, you contaminate the heart.
Put good stuff into the mind, good stuff will spring forth from the heart.

Of course it takes years for a good man to change the society but it can be done and it has proven in history.

A person who does evil only does it for a season and he will be gone. It has also been proven in history.

So the big question is ‘To be good or bad’ is a choice.
When all has been said and done, how do we want to be remembered as, is how we live our lives.

What legacy do we want to leave for this world when the clock ceases to move in us is for each of us to decide.

it Might not be possible, But not changing the world does not mean the person Can’t make a Difference..right?

Haven’t you heard of the starfish story?

Hmm..I stumbled by accident onto your blog..was googling on How Can I Change the World and surprise surprise! It lead me here.

How do you deduce what is a sin, and what’s is not?
Are there many times you asked yourself,
    what makes right, right.
    And what makes wrong, wrong?

Is there a scale that measures the
amount of sins that you have commited
which would in turn render you a place to burn in hell.
Or maybe there is a machine or device
that can clearly distinguish the obvious
characteristics between the rights and the wrongs.

Is there an intensity or value to right and wrong?
Is there a unit for right and wrong?

Just something random that came across my mind.
    How interesting isn’t it?

Humans are so eager to be the holy one.
Passing verdicts like they were never from the picture.
    But you know what.
Everything has its links and implications.

Seeing does not equate to believing.
Believing doesn’t require any seeing too.
The validation part would hafta boil down to self.
Leave the checklist to the morally-sound part of us,
the definition to those who wants to be your lifelong witness.

    Arh well…
To deep for a simple thought aye?
i should start counting mehs mehs.
