Stories Why

September 8, 2009

He sat at the cafe, watching the people in front of him, pass him by.

He saw people who looked happy and he wondered to himself, “Why do they look so happy?”

He saw people who looked sad and he wondered to himself, “Why do they look so sad?”

Then, he made up stories of their pasts to match their faces.

Stories why.

“I would encourage anyone to travel alone.” To get out of their bubble world. To learn stories about others. Lessons about themselves. To learn stories so sad yours is not worth a mention, that it pales in significance , and you don’t feel so bad anymore. To learn things so happy others pale in comparison thereafter. It is with these stranger-friends you meet along your journey in these foreign worlds that you can say whatever you want, do whatever you want, confide your secrets, bare your all. And they do the same. Because nobody cares who you are. Not pretentious. Because nobody cares.

“After Ibiza, you wouldn’t want to party anywhere else.”

“After hearing others’ tragic stories, you wouldn’t complain so much anymore; you learn to say ‘ok lor’.”

“Why do they look so happy?”

“Why do they look so sad?”

    Haha. interesting! =)

    Facial expressions are really important.
There are alot of stories behind one expression…

yes, sometimes i too, observe ppl walking around where i’m at… I also tend to look at their expression and ponder about what’s going on with that fella’s mind.. And myself too, shows my feelings through my facial expression.. But how many ppl does observe, notice and understand that?

    当我发现有人的遭遇比我的还要不幸时,痛苦的感觉就减了一大半。如果身边有个知心朋友能听我诉苦,那就更好了。。。

    If that is so..
A face doesnt really tell how well or how bad a person lives.

I guess, when someone stop counting their blessings will learn to be happy.

So long as a person stays kind, blessing comes more natually.

Sometimes I also look at people s expression and wonder why they look sad,happy…..I also sometimes show facial expressions too,but sometimes no one cares.Facial expressions tell how a person feels and what the person is thinking only you yourself will understand your facial expressions.

First time reading your blog and I like your posts’ pensiveness. Anyway, I agree a lot with the part on baring your all, to “stranger-friends”. It’s quite funny how you can be your true self and tell a total stranger so much about yourself and not having to fear anything. But yet, when faced with a friend, it becomes quite hard to let your guard down.

Facial expression can show you what the person is
and what the person is thinking
But you have to really understand the person and maybe you can know what is in their mind

Would like to have a chance to travel alone soon.

To be able to feel for the 3rd world country’s ppl wld be more real then reading it from the papers or watching it on TV. To be contented with ourselves at the least we have, might be a luxury to them.

Observing passerby is only one sided. you wldnt know what they had gone thru or is going thru. Just purely assuming, might not be e truth as some won’t like to show in their facial appearance if they are strong enuff.

I might be smiling cheerfully to ppl i met, but deep down inside, must i be that happy? not really.

I agree that you have to know the person in order to understand him/her to know what’s in their mind. =)

When a person is smiling, can you say that he/she is happy? Really? Because nobody can be sure what happens behind that smile.

And tears, of joy, anger, sadness?

Just enough to brave through the storm and through it all.

No one can be so sure after all.

Haha, that’s me… I like to match peoples’ expressions with kinds of stories…
It’s good to receive everything with a open heart. One must always be contented with what they have and always think of the needy at the same time.
Everybody cares, Elvin-gege. Really. We care about you, and you did the same to us, and to everybody that needs your love in this world. Shower your love to everyone now! Make everyone feel really blessed and warm! That’s what we can do: mutual support!

Hah, yes Elvin. Ditto to traveling alone. Ditto to traveling and seeing the world. And realising just how petty we really are to be complaining so much when others, kids as young as 4 or 5, have so many more troubles on their shoulders. Yet, they embrace strangers – me – with the warmest smile and the most sincere gestures of welcome, and live a life filled with optimism and laughter.

Hey Audrey, I’m trying very hard to remember to stock my bag with candies when travelling … the things we’ve taken for granted can bring so much cheer to the deprived children, and seeing the excitement and joy on their faces is unsurmountable happiness to me. Hope you get to do so someday too!
