This week’s i-weekly featured elvin again! Waited so long for him to reappear on the cover alrdy. Through the interview, he reli showed how strong a believer of his own principles he reli is. Will be supporting u all the way! And ytd’s finale episode of together was touching indeed. Tarzan’s beliefs and self-sacrificing spirit was portrayed very nicely through his actions. Contradiction. Sorry but it’s true. You sound dissatisfied that you have to play along when you just want to play. You want to be more in control of the situation when the media, n the audience is at the upper hand. When you know that in the entertainment industry, an artise is subject to scrutiny thus a plaything, while you still can exercise some human rights. :) fortunately not a slave.
Love this post! Autonomy is often a controlled state of being in modern society. But it’s not impossible! I hope you won’t be a playboy or a plaything though. Polar extremes are not always good, you know that.
Your writing and thoughts are getting very ‘deep and profound’, I cannot answer all in one go but one thing I would like to address ‘Playboy or playtoy’ but it is also applicable to the rest of it.
When you are in the entertainment industry or in any industries, you can be both a playboy and a playtoy simultaneously. But you can also refrain from being a playboy and a playtoy simultaneously too. It all depends on taking your stand. There is a such a thing in our character called ‘Drawing your lines and setting boundaries’ which means you will not go beyond your good principles. When you stand on your principles, no one can ask you to do otherwise. If you say ‘No’ and firmly meant it, who can ask you to do otherwise. But once you waiver, then you have broken that boundary that you have set for yourself, you become a loser and not a winner, subjecting yourself to other people demand over you.
You can always not be either. At the most, you lose your job or do you wish to lose your dignity and respect if you make your stand.
In filming, if you apply cognitive thinking, then a direct kiss is not the only way to express love and affection. I can kiss someone on the cheek and yet it is my expression of love. So the fallacy in most filming is to go beyond the average, demands something more, then this is when you can exercise your rights and not conformed to it, you have become a winner.
Normally most people are conformers and not transformers. If we are transformers, we will face opposition and criticisms so 90% would choose to be conformers. Which percentage categories are you in, I will choose to be the 10% transformers even if it is minorities. (I am referring to the above scene of kissing).
I like the character ‘Tarzan’ though may not be so realistic but still achievable. So I hope Tarzan will be an example for you to follow, I mean his principles and kind character.

I shall not ‘tear my hair out’ (not much hair left anyway) to dig into your post….in life, we play along in whatever we do …we play our role as a child, son, worker, father etc…. and we want to play it well too. Likewise, in entertainment too…politics are here and everywhere. Learn to play the game well without losing one’s self and integrity is most important, and not harming others in the process.
If you want to be a playboy, you’ll be a playboy.
If you want to be a playtoy, you’ll be a playtoy.
Leehom Wang started out singing crappy songs that he doesn’t like, but just because he was a newbie then and his music company thinks that it suits him he just have to follow the ‘rules’. After several years of hardship and endless effort, he became recgonise and well-known and finally he can produce what he really wants the whole world to listen to.
Sometimes its not just being a player or a plaything, subject or object. imo, it’s just waiting for the ripe time before you can decide on what you can.

u noe wat Elvin? I really dun like u when I first saw u in ur 1st drama, ur colourful hair, ur fake articulation, ur stiff acting and ur role - the whole package was totally aweful and i wonder ware did they get this newbie from.. OMG.
u caught my eye when I 1st bumped into u @ old aiport road hawker years ago, ur unasumming and polite attitude towards the hawker while u r ordering the drinks caught my attention. And i started to notice u thereafter though I still dun tink much of ur acting. but u had gotten better over the yrs thou to be honest u really need to hone ur acting skills. opps.

hello elvin. recently your old show is on channel 8 at 5.30pm, the one with ruien. And i must say your acting skills have really improved a lot! I really like tarzan! And i really admire you! From what i see, you are really polite and friendly and nice. So work harder, prove the outside world that you are capable of being their ideal actor. but don’t worry, i think you are doing great! Just be yourself. I’m sure you can do it! Have a great year ahead! You are my favourite actor from singapore! :) hope to bump into you in real life! :)
Hey vOn, appreciate your honesty (think Elvin does too) but i think he’s gotten out of the jaded phase and is unto something bigger now. As in, a broader and more optimistic view if life in which he is the author and actor all in one. Keep noticing him and you’ll see him get better and better. Cheers.

Elvin, the only thing that could keep you going in a job is passion. If you are passionate about your job or any other jobs, the chances is that you will succeed because you love doing what you are doing.

In every job that we do, there is some elements of being under control. Even if I am the boss, so what, my customers control me. I am still subjected to their fanciful demands on my products and services. My customers become my boss.
What if I am a teacher, my students become my boss, their perfomances in exam will determine how good and dedicated a teacher I am and I will be subjected to my principal’s appraisal.
So take one step at a time. Rain comes in showers so that we can enjoy the rain. Torrential rainfall can destroy crops and flood the drains.

The Playboy “plays” people & he is usually the one in charge (the master). The toyboy surrenders to the fact that someone else is in charge of him (the slave)…
Which one will he rather be? i would say, in either case, it will be challange to hold himself with much respect, dignity or pride…
In most cases, the one who “plays” others doesn’t know the true meaning of respect. A huge ego is wad we usually describe a playboy to be.
A toyboy is the flamboyant dude who yields to someone else. By letting someone else gauge his worth, he is proclaiming: “I am all that is.” or “i’m worth only this much”
I think most importantly is, do only what makes u happy. And whether or not the paths u take makes u grow positively as a person….
If u wake up in the morning feeling refreshed, and at night, u look back at the day’s events feeling fulfilled and happy and at peace with yourself and others..U are on the right track….!
