a quiet sunday’s musings
February 27, 2011time for calm and quiet. to slow down and take a look at things around us. to step outside ourselves and get out of the rhythm we put ourselves in which we have so gotten used. it’s ok to be out of sync. it’s alright for that occasional stutter, or more. everything will be fine. the only thing you can know about life is that it always comes with its ups and downs, never constant, never reaching our ideal or preconceived state of equilibrium, unless we think it so. we can climb the highest mountain, only to find greater and newer heights beyond; we can get to the lowest low, only to realise there is always something else that will match or further it. is life a comparative or a superlative? i think it is all, and everything in between. nothing unchanging, even the comparatives and the superlatives we set for ourselves. at a perceived highest point, we strive to keep ourselves there, to maintain it, only to realise the futility of our efforts; at the lowest point, we fight and struggle to pull ourselves out, only to find the dawn of a brand new day after a good night’s sleep, nightmares and dreams. life takes us places, and when you can scale the greatest heights, you can also fall to the deepest depths. but know everything will be fine. the world out there can be harsh and moving at a pace far beyond you, the waters may be too turbulent for your liking, at times everything’s spinning, but i say learn it, ride it, you’re doing fine. we say be ready for the next high or the next low, or just change, but we don’t always have to be ready. get out of the routine, that monotone, that comfort zone, that solid ground, cos it’s not that stable or comfortable after all. sometimes tread on water, push some boundaries, go beyond. sometimes then, get back to that comfort zone. maybe in sync and out of sync are not so mutually exclusive after all. direction need not always be forward or right; a retreat can be a form of advancement, right may be “to the left, to the left”. life is a flux of all things. this is your story. this is your song. “how wonderful life is, now you’re in the world.” — luv, elvin.

Wow~~~all wordings :)) I need DAYS to digest.
been quite some time since there’s a new entry.
will need some time to absorb ur profound entry once again, but i like it!
how was ur sunday? have a great brand new week ahead!
luv, audrey. :p
Elvin, i find that there are lots of “regrets” in my life… even those minor things. i feel that there’s a need to do what we(moral/legal rite) like/want n since life is so short n happiness n satisfaction is soooo important… but due to certain circumstances, i dont get to fulfil many of them… i hate that kinda feelins… its not that i do not have the ability or what… i missed so many things, so many chances, n i jus see them pass me by. its very hard for me to jus treat it as no big deal or jus forget abt it… such thoughts are bad. i really wanna get outta routine, monotone…. but i donno how n don have the courage.how to take it easy? maybe u can enlighten me?
so well said, i love it, its so comforting to me, thanks ou xiang!
Woo I love this song!
First heard it sang by Elton so many many years ago!
Awesome song!
Thanks Elvin.
I may not totally understand what you have wrote, but your words always seem so enlightening. You’ve touched my life in a way.
Thank you for your entry. Saw it on xinmsn, and decided to click it to read it further.
Your entry has touched me, from the bottom of my heart. Really liked this sentence, “direction need not always be forward or right.” At some point in our lives, we have all been pressured to do the ‘systematic soldiering,’ a painful and tormenting process that we all have been doing for years, to always keep up with the mad pace, and to blindly veer ourselves to the goals. Sometimes, … all it takes is just to sit down, and ponder about the things we have been doing.
It has been a great source of motivation reading this entry.
All the best for Best Actor this year!
Elvin’s post is always so profound and with depth…so, i just comprehend where i can …to me, having time to ourselves to sort out our thoughts, to rest, to take stock and move forward is a bliss. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going … well, what goes down must come up and vice versa, as long as we put in effort in it. A book to recommend : DRIVE

We all want to live our life with purpose and passion.
I like the photo and the word on it. As meaningful and motivating as ur profound entry.
Somehow after reading, tears rolled down my cheeks….
Well, i do hope thaat ‘everything will be fine’ for myself.
Elvin, congrats for being nominated for so many awards. I look forward to seeing u soon!
Take care and have a great week ahead!
Wif luv, Huiyun
a note to yourself, definitely not to anyone in particular :P
Dear Elvin,
That was an awesome post! I totally agree.. And sometimes even when we find ourselves in a valley.. The only way out is to keep walking… And the reason why there’s a valley is usually cuz it’s in between 2 mountains.. That also means after we get through the valley, we will be on our way up another mountain with a new breaktaking view awaiting us!!:)
This is an amazing entry. You must have typed it very quickly and everything comes right from the bottom of your heart. I can feel it. :)
I’ve learnt quite a lot just from this short post. It’s just straight to the point. Thanks Elvin!
Work schedule must be very hectic for you! Hope you’re still cooping fine. Hope you’re still living life to the fullest each and every day. Love you! :)
With lots of love,
Yuting.
wow.. thanks for this post. i guessed it helped me (:!!

In life, you will never know if something that is happening now which may be “bad” at present moment could actually be a blessing in disguise………cos one event will lead to another…….
so how can we tell if it is a blessing in disguise ? only at the time just before we depart this world……………

I have learned some vocabulary from your post~
I like this line of words: life is a flux of all things=)
only on the lowest point of life, then we finally realise what we are really chasing the real goal in life. we shouldnt lead life like the rest of the pack. but to know what we should improve on the real goal that appears and be the best of the best in whatever we do but not forgetting to have a big heart to help those who do not have food on their table and struggling to live on every single day.
Having a peace of mind is important especially living in the city where schedules are packed to the maximum.
Setting aside time to reconnect with ourselves and with loved ones and be in tune with the inner most desire of what is most fulfilling to do.. I feel is the best way to lead a meaningful life. To have passion for life, and compassion for others.
Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way you want it to be, and it may not be anyone’s fault. I’m taking my life at my own stride, hoping for the best and moving on when there’s a need to.
Which brings to mind a quote:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
—Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
=) Always with luv,

The world out there can be harsh but you never know unless you try.
Being in a comfort zone of work is important.
Life only once, live it the right way.
In life, being with the right person is a bliss, its priceless :-)
Haha as a fan of yours i sometimes wish that you occasionally write about something less profound and a little more mundane, so we can get some sense of your daily life, but of cos i respect you for who you are, with your reflective ways and all. maybe it would be nice if your thoughts and reflections could be interspersed with some updates on what u’re up with :)
hope to see you on tv soon!
Elvin, your words are profound but so true. There are too many things going on in our lives sometimes we just need to sit back and take stock, to see where we are heading and what we have left behind. Knowing that every goal we have set and attained, there will be a higher goal yet; every failure that brought us down will be yet another lesson learned. Will look forward to seeing your blog !
All the best to your career – enjoyed watching your every show!
Well writen but you so likable cant resist you
What you visualised is reflected in your depth of thoughts.
What you described is shown you have grown up already.
What you saw is the reality of things you see.
What you feel is your empathy of things and lives.

In life, there are ups and down. Sometimes we are at the peak and sometimes we drop to the ground or beyond the ground. Life has to be carry on. We learn from mistakes, learn how to stand up again on our own when we fall down.

Opsy~~~~sounds familiar ???
a very well written post~if ever u’ve got the time, i think you should write some motivational books. really, u make such a good and inspiring author. i would definitely be the first to grab a copy.
All the best on Sun !!!!
Really liked the part where you said ‘retreat is also a form
Of advancement’. It never occurred to me to see retreat in that sorta light. It has been always a negative connotation. I read your blog often and
Am always delighted to find a new blog post–they never disappoint. It’s rare to find celebrities like you who still do take time to ponder over certain things and share it with their fans.
If you do know any please share it with us in your next post so that we can all learn and in one way or another inspire others like the way you do.
Haha I wonder if you do read all these posts, given your hectic schedule!
Please continue writing and updating :) they are such joy! :D
hey Elvin. great and awesome job for PSD…
i agree with you. so tired..
very philosophical. And your words pictured so many images in my head. You are a very good writer and motivator!
well said but maybe some paragraphing makes the word easier to digest. Cheers.. if you can take a short break. Not too long, for long break will make a person lazy and your fans will miss you for being away from their TV screens. lol.
Yeah i totally agree with you :)
especially like tt part, right may be “to the left, to the left”….so amusingly quoted..
Very nicely written, rather inspiring. Step out of the comfort zone, and be who u want to be, and not who people want u to be.
This entry is very well said and it’s very relevant to many people’s lives. I think you’re amazing because you’re not afraid to speak your mind. Thanks elvin! :)
Hi!
So I’m feeling like the world’s biggest creep, stalking your blog like that, but after reading for… long enough, I find myself having a comment to submit. :P
I respect you a lot, firstly, in so many ways: your command of language, particularly (Wiki says you were from Cat High and NJ! That makes you many years senior of this – heh – creep); it gives me hope that if I try hard enough I might end up like you in terms of linguistical ability! :D Which would be totally cool. But I don’t think I’ll be continuing with lit in uni. A level lit is tough as it is ):
Apart from that, a majority of your posts are so reflective and cathartical it’s maturity to a frightening level. I’ve always wondered if it comes with age for everybody or is wisdom accumulated individually, like based on experiences and stuff. Either way, your writing is always so thought-provoking and inspirational, as many others have pointed out. I salute that! ^^
I also like that you share thoughts so freely, so publicly. It makes you seem more… real; not some random celebrity whom I see only on TV but an actual person that relates to life. Shoutouts you make to Elvinology at the Awards are brilliant in the acknowledgement itself; truly heartening, even to the outsider, and I’m sure your fans feel gratified that they’re appreciated (how does it feel like when you hear people screaming your name?). Thanks for being all smiles and displaying your strength (I’m sure there are times when smiling is the last thing you’d wanna do, right) in front of the screen, and thanks for even updating the blog continually. I’m *rather* certain you’ve heard things like that many times before, but praise should be given where it’s due and you definitely deserve it – from your efforts both on- and off-screen.
I’m so sorry for this horribly naggy comment :/ I’m guessing you’re quite spooked/annoyed hehe. Nonetheless, thanks for ploughing through this chunk of nonsense, and
1. all the best in your endeavours! :D
2. you’re secretly my role model now, I think.
3. please please please don’t publish this – there’s a bit of personal info in there (and it’s kind of embarrassing how 罗嗦 this guy is).
4. I’m quite amused when people answer your rhetorical questions, too.
Have a great life!
Sincerely,
Creep
P.S. omg have you been to every single place on the planet?! Your picture bank is huge!
