ultimately exists in every human being an innate desire, a yearning, to be understood and loved, as well as to understand and love. and this is where inter-human relationships come to play in the basis of human existence. relationships need affinity, shared empathy, some degree of intimacy, and have to be reciprocal. sometimes, even polar opposites can attract, because they show a different side of the world, yet are not so dissimilar after all. a relationship can be familial, romantic, a friendship, a working one, or even a shared moment with a stranger. inside everyone, there is a calling, looking to satisfy and be satisfied. listen to it. feel it.

the “3″ is still missing from “124″ but it is the one you try to put away that haunts and calls out the loudest. and the calling continues. affinity, empathy, intimacy, reciprocal.

It was an exciting night at the races.

Some do it for the money.

Some do it for fun.

Some do it for pride and glory.

Some for that moment of victory.

What I came away most touched by was the intimate relationship shared between jockey and horse. And all the hard work they put in to get them to race day and beyond. I was told the life span of a race horse is about three years. A blaze of glory, yes, and if only for that moment, there’s something romantic and timeless about it.

Whatever you do, what do you do it for? What’s the ultimate prize? Is it for the money? Is it for pride and glory? Or is it for passion and love? For your job and for the people you love and who love you. Whether it’s for money, pride or glory, passion and love cannot be taken out of it. I say, the ultimate prize is love.

Some races are a sprint while others stretch over a longer distance. Some require speed while others need stamina and perseverance. But they all have something in common though; strength of character, that is, to come through.

Often we think it’s a race with others, or it could be a race against time, but mostly though it’s a race with yourself, against your own expectations and ambitions. You could see many lanes and many runners or you could see yourself and your lane.

You could be running with a pacer; you might be running at someone else’s pace; often though you just need to run at your own pace. At times you find yourself leading the pack; other times you fall behind to play catch-up. Some make the finishing line; some fall short.

Sometimes it’s a tortoise-race; sometimes it’s a hare-race, sometimes it’s a rat-race; sometimes it’s a horse-race.

I say:

Let’s take us to the races!

There is the old conundrum as to whether the glass is half-empty or half-full.

To view it as half-empty is a more negative outlook on life; to view it as half-full is a more positive outlook on life.

There is no problem, however, when the glass is empty.

There is a big problem, when the glass is full.

How I see it really, is that the glass, is half-empty, half-full.

some people want to lead a simple life.

some want a rich and comfortable life.

others wish for a long and healthy life.

a few others, an exciting life.

i want to lead a poignant life;

that each moment mattered, however fleeting,  for that moment, and on its own.

saw this quote somewhere: “the only thing you can be certain about in this otherwise uncertain world is that the past is unchangeable, the present will disappear in a moment but there will always be a tomorrow to be shaped as you wish.”

i think life is measured, if ever it can be measured, by its poignancy.

What would you do?

For love, I would pursue it and give it my best shot even if I knew it was a mistake right from the start and nothing would come out of it; I would rather have lived it and be hurt than never to have lived at all.

That’s how much I would give for love.

Idealistic? Romantic? Stubborn? Irrational?

I was thinking, “How many irrational decisions have I made in my life?” The answer: not many. I have been a fairly rational being. & only for love would I give myself, I would be an irrational being.

For love, what would you give?
